| Saturday 24th May 2003: |
The other morning someone came past the house and rang next door's bell just as I emerged from my house. I had only just got up from bed, and padded outside in my bare feet, hair all mussed and rumpled, carrying a dark green padded cat bed by the handhold at the top. I set it down carefully at the front of the path and tried to coax the occupant out. I tipped the cat bed up and said "come on out." Nothing happened. I twittered, and clucked, and put my hand in, but the occupant just fluttered and flapped and stayed right where it was. It was a bird! Eventually I sagged, and muttered 'blimey'! and the women behind me laughed, and disappeared into their house. I decided to leave the cat bed where it was, retreating into my own house to brush my hair. When I came back, the bird was still there, but when it saw me coming decided it was now or never - and flew off to hide in my garden. Well I don't know what the neighbours think, but maybe they don't need to watch Big Brother when the cats are around. |
